Detail lost when .obj file imported into Artcam

How much time does this fellow have working in artcam? What does he or she have, the pro, insignia, or express? If he, or she has the pro there are plenty of tools to fix the triangle, or faceted problems that seem to arise with some of the obj files.

My machinist runs a long-standing business selling CNC machines so he knows his stuff.

Apparently there's an issue with the latest version of ArtCam which means curved surfaces are not being rendered properly. Delcam are looking into this and there's actually nothing wrong with how either my modeller is building his designs, or my machinist is processing the toolpath.

ArtCam Dongle

Hi Dhananjay,

There are two ways ArtCAM can work currently with Dongle.

1) RMS Server (Flex licence): If the customer needs more/multiple number of seats, they have the option to buy this type of licensing system. This allows the user to install the Dongle and License Server Software along with License file on the Server and with only Client licence file installed on Client Computer, the user can run ArtCAM by accessing the licence through Server. So, the dongle will be plugged in to the server and the licence can be accessed through network to a client computer.

2) PAF (Product Authorization File) Licence File: This will allow the user to install the PAF File on workstation/desktop which can run ArtCAM with the Dongle connected to the computer. With this type of licencing system, ArtCAM does not recommend or support the use of remotely accessing ArtCAM software.

Thank You.
Prashant

Single line font OR where I can pay someone to build one

I need a single line ArtCAM font, NOT a True Type font. I know about the closed loop of a true type font. I've used ArtCAM's Swiss1 font with marginal results. It needs to be remade to make it look cleaner without all the line segments and lifting of the engraving head.

1) The new font should be built with the minimalist of lifting of the cutter.
2) It should use arcs instead of multiple line segments to make a round cut.
3) The cutter can re-cuts a line segment instead of lifting the engraver's spindle.
4) The start of a letter should always start on the left side if possible and end on the right to keep the motion of the engraver moving towards the right.

If there isn't a font like this out there, which I can't believe that other engravers didn't have this same problem, is there someone I can pay to create it for me?

I have an old copy of ArtCAM 8.2 Build 13 2005, I know it's old but this is what I have.

I also have Font Creator within Insignia Ver. 3.000k. I tried using it and to me it doesn't work. I couldn't get it to renumber the order of the lines to make a continuous cut without lifting up and moving elsewhere and then going back to where it was.

Too long ago to remember ver 8 but should be the same as follows
when you do your toolpath and select the tool from the tool database you have the option to change the parameters for that toolpath eg stepover, stepdown, feedrate, RPM etc Look at the screen capture above you will see where i open up the tool parameters

It's been a month and a half since re-started using ArtCAM and all is going well. I ran a few small jobs, a few medium jobs and a large job that was running around the clock for 6 days with just enough time to change cutters and material. I made 2600) 1"x 3" and 500) 3" x 3" informational data plates from the standard Rowmark engraving stock on my Precix 48" x 52" engraver. I was able to set up two full sheets of material 24" x 48" and let it rip. I had to come back to the shop in the early morning hours to change cutters and then go back home to keep it running. One run with small text run for over 8 hours alone.

It's nice to be back in business.

Take a look at http://www.dafont.com/, look at all the single line fonts then install the ones you like, before my last computer went toast (Saturday as a mater of fact  (belly-up, never to be resurrected) I had gotten some very nice fonts to try out, a few were so beautiful and am so embarrassed that I have forgotten where I got them and what they were called :cry: . (fyi) You have to install them in order to use them.

There are other places to look for nice fonts.

usually "single line" TTF fonts is double line in fact, for example "l" have two line and the nodes are closed, if time machining isn't a problem can use that fonts but in other cases I preferred to draw my letters

.. It is a technical limitation in formats like TTF, the letter vector must be closed

Hi Ken,

I can see the problem here.

Eg: If the Material Block Height = 1Inch
Z Zero is set up at Top,

And if I need the last slice = 0.25, then in this case, I will have to enter the value of -0.75 (Negative 0.75) in the Last Slice Z area.

So, that the last slice will be leaving the material of 0.25 from bottom and will be calculating the pass accordingly.

Hope this clarifies.

If you require the support of the forum community, I recommend that you register as a Verified ArtCAM Express User as soon as possible. Thanks in advance for your time and cooperation.

Kind regards,
Prashant

True single line fonts, also known as engraving fonts, are few and far between. Most I know who need to do a lot of that either bite the bullet and buy the ones they want (if they can find them) or create them themselves. There are some in the AC fonts, but as you noted they do not always cut the most efficient way as they are. There is no such thing as a Truetype single line font by definition of the process.
The following search link will give you much to research to solve your issue:

Cahoona,

Taking a look at them is your choice, mainly because I don't know what you would like, I myself, play with each one I download and see if I could like them, if I can not, I delete them, the ones that have too many problems that need fixing are the ones to go.

I haven't taken a look at too many single lines fonts yet, but I will down some and check them out.

the single line font, you set toolpath along,

then with an example a lower case ""t"" it will make first the vertical stroke with the "leg"" then lift up and back on the horizontal stroke..

if you want ""continuous"" then only way fooling the program and making an inside cut of a block font, like arial..
but single line fonts should work for most purpose..

sorry machinist:-) , when I write my reply I don't saw your post, was't displayed
